The Phi-TEC II is a low PHI-factor (or low thermal inertia) adiabatic calorimeter with the capability of accurately simulating the behaviour of a large-scale chemical reactor under conditions virtually identical to a large-scale plant, while using only 10-100mL of sample. Since it simulates closely larger scale plant, it is often used to size relief vents to protect against thermal runaway, including venting two-phase vapour liquid relief.
This is a safety calorimeter designed to test safety problems of thermal runaway initiated by high temperature, overdischarge (too high current) and overcharging (too high voltage). It can be used to test large and small Li-ion & similar other high energy batteries and components. On-Line Calorimetry enables approximate heat flow data to be produced from standard jacketed reactors, rather than special calorimeters. The heat release being measured is displayed on-line, as the reaction proceeds and requires no knowledge of calormetery or calcuation by the user.
