Launch of Continuous flow reactor for fine chemicals and petroleum applications

HEL's 12th Conference in Cambridge on Flow & Batch Process Development for Hydrogenation and other catalytic reactions last week was used as a launch pad for the widely acclaimed FlowCAT from HEL.  This new catalytic flow reaction platform offers unique versatility in terms of application range, yet remains compact and simple to use.

FlowCAT was confirmed as the system of choice for high pressure heterogeneous catalysis by Dr Joel Hawkins of Pfizer and further confirmation of design excellence is the increasing uptake by petrochemical and refining companies - industry well versed with flow chemistry.

Applications presented at the meeting included numerous examples of hydrogenation but also new fields such as carbonylation, oxidation and liquid-liquid chemistry.  Examples of the last were reported in both fixed bed catalytic reactors and reactors in the form of long, coiled tubing made from steel and PTFE, making the system adaptable to slower reactions performed under mild conditions.
